Hilton’s mobile product ecosystem spans dozens of features across iOS and Android, with multiple teams contributing simultaneously. Without a unified design system, designers and developers often duplicated work, created inconsistencies, and struggled to scale changes across platforms.

The challenge was clear:

• Establish a unified design system that bridged iOS, Android, and web parity.

• Create semantic, token-based foundations for colors, typography, and spacing.

• Align multiple pods (feature teams) under a single system of truth.

• Support accessibility (WCAG compliance) and performance across a global user base.

🚀 Approach

Our founder led the Mobile Design System Pod, owning the design system from both the design and product perspectives. This included:

• Figma Architecture: Built scalable libraries with tokens (color, type, spacing) mapped to iOS/Android code.

• Cross-Platform Tokens: Established mappings for Swift, Kotlin, and SCSS for seamless developer adoption.

• Education & Training: Conducted sessions with designers across pods to align on system usage and contributions.

• Governance: Set up contribution models, naming conventions, and review processes to keep the system consistent and maintainable.

• Accessibility: Integrated WCAG 2.2 standards into components and design reviews.
